Encouraging students to pursue science careers begins with the educator in the classroom. to assist teachers in integrating new technology to inspire young learners Alpha Psi regularly supplies volunteers to the Satellites and Education Conferences held successfully for the last three of its seventeen years at CSULA. Chaired by the well known and highly regarded Dr. Paula Arvedson, the conference offers educators the opportunity to listen to experts from institutions such as NOAA and NASA about new and exciting frontiers in satellites technology that can be implemented in the classroom of today. Other educators in the field provide instructional presentations on the methodology and pedagogy necessary to get students kindergarten through college excited about science. In partnership with the Afghanistan relief organization, Alpha Psi members have collected everything from new pencils and pens to used computer monitors and keyboards to assist the rebuilding of the educational system in Afghanistan. Motivated by stories of children so anxious for an education that they learn in tents sitting on the bare ground from teachers so dedicated that they often work without pay and buy their own blackboards and chalk.
